Hello Honors Choir!

You all worked so hard this past Sunday....... again! We fixed lots of difficult spots, so there are just a few little problems to take care of when we get together on November 24. We do not meet this weekend (November 17), so any time you can spend practicing with rehearsal tracks (especially for Offertory, Libera Me, In Paradisum and This Little Light) will be really helpful.

We know how busy all of you are, and we thank you again for your dedication to Honors Choir. Because of you, this will be a very special concert!

October 23, 2019
Hi Everybody!

We are off to a great start in Honors Choir this year......your excellent attendance and hard work in our first four rehearsals has been inspiring! We still have lots to do, though, especially on the "Requiem", and we have just two more rehearsals (November 3 and 10), so if you can find some time to practice with the rehearsal tracks for the "Requiem", that would be a big help.

Your response to the three candidates for Honors Choir Director has also been outstanding. Our Executive Director, Bill Lytle, has told us that your written ratings and comments following each audition are informed and thoughtful, and they will be very helpful to the succession committee as they evaluate each audition. The committee will make a recommendation and the Honors Choir Board of Directors will consider their recommendation at their board meeting in mid-November. We are all grateful for your participation and assistance in the process.

Hello Honors Choir!

We blasted through ALL of our music on Sunday, and we had another great rehearsal. This Sunday, we're going to start to work on memorizing your music (except for "Requiem", of course....), and our third (and final) candidate for director will work with you during the rehearsal. Be sure to bring your music, a pencil and a water bottle.... we've still got a lot to do!

Your new Honors Choir outfits will be delivered to you this Sunday during rehearsal, and seamstresses will be there to measure the hem length during rehearsal. The hemmed items will be returned to you at the November 10 rehearsal. Be sure to bring your performance shoes this Sunday if you are using the seamstress services. New dresses and trousers need hemmed. If you selected a used item that needs hemmed or your item from last year needs hemmed, you may bring your item and performance shoes to the October 20 rehearsal. The seamstress services will be subsidized by York County Honors Choirs at no cost to you. If you have a family member or trusted seamstress who can do it for you, you do not need to use the Honors Choir seamstress service. We will have a list of all who signed up to take advantage of the seamstress services this Sunday.

REMINDER: Your copy of the "Requiem" must be in a black 3-ring binder for rehearsals. Be sure your name is on the music in the folder.  ALSO: If you must miss a rehearsal, please be sure to remind us by contacting Michal at yorkhonorschoir1@aol.com .

 Hi Everybody!

Sunday's rehearsal was very special as we continue the process of selecting a new director for Senior Honors Choir. Thank you for making our first candidate welcome and for responding to his direction in such a professional manner. Your ratings and written comments are valuable in assisting the selection committee to evaluate each candidate. We'll have another audition this Sunday and a third audition on October 20, each with different music excerpts for you to sight-read for the candidate.

Thanks also for your outstanding attendance at the last two rehearsals and for your very hard work during the rest of our rehearsal on Sunday. We still have several pieces that need considerable work (especially "Across the Vast Eternal Sky" and "This Little Light of Mine") and we'll need to spend time working on several sections of the "Requiem".  Please be sure that you have a pencil!

If you are interested in a career in music education, or elementary education, this would be a great experience for you. Mrs. Knott already knows that Northern students will be in Disney and that there will be Encore rehearsals in the morning. You would not be able to attend the Encore rehearsal. Hello Honors Choir!

Sunday's rehearsal was excellent! Your singing was outstanding and we somehow managed to sing through a lot of music AND get fitted for formal outfits and hand in forms all at the same time. This week, we're going to work on the sections of music that are particularly difficult or that we didn't get to on Sunday and get pretty picky about notes, rhythms, breath marks, phrases and texts, so be sure you have a pencil..... you'll need it! Please read the information below carefully so you'll be prepared for this Sunday's rehearsal.

Our thanks go to Beth Inkrote, our Administrative Assistant, and to the parents who volunteered to assist us during the rehearsal and outfit fittings on Sunday: Amy Tomassone and Amy Snyder ....... THANK YOU! And, of course, we say thanks again to Wendy Fraser, Dana Gaetjen and Stephanie Stoolmaker, our logistics coordinators for sorting through all your forms and keeping track of attendance every week!! They're always there in case you need them at each rehearsal and concert.

PLEASE NOTE: Your copy of the "Requiem" must be in a black 3-ring binder for rehearsals. Be sure your name is on the music in the folder. ALSO: If you must miss a rehearsal, please be sure to remind us by contacting Michal at yorkhonorschoir1@aol.com .

Following the audition, you will have an opportunity to evaluate the candidate using a short written form.

2. CONCORDE AUDITION RESULTS

Thank you to all who auditioned for Concorde! It can be a scary experience to sing all alone in a room full of your peers, and we understand how rhythmically and melodically challenging "Psalm 96" is, especially when singing solo a cappella. Our decisions were very much influenced by your rhythmic and melodic accuracy as well as your vocal production. If you were not chosen, please do not think that you're not a good singer...... you are all good and you are all important contributors to Honors Choir and your school and church choirs.

AUDITIONS RE-OPENED - The vocal parts in Concorde must be as balanced as possible. The 15 singers listed below have been selected for Concorde (and they will make an excellent, balanced ensemble), but we would like the group to be larger, if possible. So, we are offering an additional audition opportunity to any singer who auditioned on Sunday but was not chosen OR who did not audition at all on Sunday. In order to add singers, we must be able to add an equal number to each voice part. In other words, to add another soprano, we must also be able to add another alto, another tenor, and another bass. If we can add two more singers to each part, that would be even better. The audition will be exactly the same section of "Psalm 96" (measures 1 to 23) to be sung with the audition track.

If you wish to audition again OR for the first time, please arrive at 1 p.m. on Sunday, check in downstairs, and then go upstairs to the sanctuary. We need people from all four voice parts to make this work, so encourage each other to come out!!

Concorde will rehearse this Sunday from 4:00 to 4:45 p.m

The members of the 2019-20 Concorde Vocal Ensemble are (in alphabetical order):

SOPRANO - Holly Hinchcliff, Madi Horner, Isabella Jensen, and Brenna Richard

ALTO - Ainsley Buia, Emily Danczyk, Bevan Fogdall, and Abi Trembly

TENOR - Aidan Fraser, Nigel Joseph, and Anthony Wood

BASS - Galen Brubaker, Matthew Guadaginino, James Moyer, and Joseph Patterson

Please check your schedule to be sure you are available for Concorde rehearsals from 4:00 to 4:45 following Honors Choir rehearsals.

3. FREE SEAMSTRESS SERVICES ON OCTOBER 20!

The Honors Choir is offering free seamstress services to all students who need their dress or pants hemmed or lowered. New dresses and pants need hemmed. Seamstresses will come to the Honors Choir rehearsal on October 20, the day that you will receive your new outfit items. The seamstresses will measure the hem length during rehearsal on October 20 and bring the hemmed items back to the November 10 rehearsal to be ready for the concert on November 24. Bring your performance shoes on October 20 if you are using the seamstress services.

If you selected a used item that needs hemmed or your item from last year needs hemmed, you may bring your item and performance shoes to the October 20 rehearsal.

The seamstress services will be subsidized by York County Honors Choirs at no cost to you.

Please fill out this survey by October 7 so that we can get a count of who will need the seamstress services on October 20.

4. HELP WITH JR HONORS CHOIR REGISTRATIONS

If you know of any 7th, 8th or 9th grade talented singers in your school or church, please recommend Junior Honors Choir to them. Registration continues until this Sunday, October 6. Please tell them to go to our website at www.theYCHC.org, click on "Student Center" and then click on "Fall Registration Packets" for New or Returning candidates. Your recommendation will be greatly appreciated!

5. PEANUT ALLERGY ALERT!

Several members of Senior Honors Choir are very allergic to peanuts. Please be certain that you do not bring any peanuts or peanut snacks to any Honors Choir rehearsals or concerts.

6. SOLO AUDITIONS ON SUNDAY, OCTOBER 20

Auditions for all the solos for the Nov. 24 concert will be held on Sunday, October 20 from 1:00 to 1:30 p.m. We will rehearse the solos during our rehearsals on October 6 and 13.

Hello Honors Choir!

Congratulations........ We heard some wonderful singing in your auditions this past weekend! (The middle of "Sanctus" has a rough spot, but we can fix that when we get together....) We know we challenged you by asking you to sing individually at the end of the audition, but you showed us that you were prepared and willing to step outside your comfort zone. That's what leadership is all about! There are so many talented singers among you, and we are confident that this will be an outstanding choir! Thank you for your efforts and for fitting the audition into your busy schedules.

PLEASE NOTE: Your copy of the "Requiem" must be in a black 3-ring binder for this week's rehearsal. Be sure your name is on the music in the folder. ALSO: If you must miss a rehearsal, please be sure to remind us by contacting Michal at yorkhonorschoir1@aol.com .

This message contains a great deal of important information concerning our first rehearsal this Sunday. Please read carefully.

In today's message:

Rehearsal this week, Sunday, September 29
All forms and payments due this Sunday
Concorde auditions this Sunday at 4 p.m.
Free seamstress service available on October 20

1. REHEARSAL THIS WEEK, SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 29

  * 1:00 to 1:25 p.m. auditions in the sanctuary - Hope Allen, Anna Feild, Alli Reeser, Jordan Williams, Abbie Wood. Please sign-in downstairs and be ready to sing at 1:00.

  * 1:30 to 4:00 p.m. - rehearsal, collection of forms and checks, and formal outfit fittings for everyone in Fellowship Hall, downstairs in Eastminster Presbyterian Church.

  * 4:00 to 5:00 p.m. - Concorde auditions in the choir room. (Optional for those who wish to audition.)

When you arrive on Sunday, go down the steps outside the church, sign in, pick up your name tag, hand in your outstanding forms (medical, insurance card copy, conflicts, honor code of conduct), and then find your seat. During the rehearsal, you will go for formal outfit fittings, hand in your "Tuition and Formal Outfit Order Form" with your check, and rehearse (kind of a 3-ring circus with several things going on at once.....).

Be certain to bring all your signed forms, your check, your music, a pencil and your water bottle.

2. ALL FORMS AND PAYMENT ARE DUE THIS SUNDAY

All forms must be handed in this Sunday. If you are not prompt, it makes a great deal more work for our staff. We appreciate your attention to these details!

The following forms are due this Sunday. (If you have lost the forms, you can download another copy on the Forms page of our website.)
If you have already turned in your Medical, Conflict, and Honor Code forms, then you'll only need your Tuition and Formal Outfit Order Form and your check.

 * Medical Information Form and Health Insurance Card- Please complete the Medical Information Form carefully and accurately, and copy both sides of your health insurance card to the back of the form. This is very important information for us to have in the event that you need medical assistance while you are with us at a rehearsal or concert. We will carefully guard your personal information to ensure your privacy.

  * Conflict Form - Please check your calendar for the year. If you know of school responsibilities that will conflict with Honors Choir (such as concerts, parades and musicals), please list them so that we can plan ahead. Please remember that your school activities always come first when there is a direct conflict with an Honors Choir date, but we ask you to avoid scheduling work and family activities at the same time as Honors Choir rehearsals and concerts. Even though you have listed conflicts on your form, we still ask you to remind us of your upcoming absence by writing to Michal at least a week in advance of your absence at  yorkhonorschoir1@aol.com

*Honor Code of Conduct Form - Read carefully and be sure that both parent/guardian and student sign the Honor Code of Conduct Acceptance. You only need to hand in the Acceptance sheet.

  * Senior Choir Tuition and Formal Outfit Order Form and check for payment- Please study this form carefully!  You only need to fill out the top portion.....our staff and volunteers will be sure that you are fitted for the correct size. If you were in Senior Honors Choir last year, please look at your formal outfit to be sure that it's still in good condition and still fits (you do not need to bring it with you on Sunday). If you were in Junior Honors Choir last year, the girls will all need to purchase a formal dress and all the guys will need to purchase a black shirt and red tie (If your tux pants and vest still fit, you can use them.....if not, you'll need to get new ones). If you have not been in Senior Honors Choir before, you will need to purchase a new dress or formal outfit. The tuition fee of $120 is also due now, even if you do not need to purchase a formal outfit. Please be sure to bring your check written to "York County Honors Choirs".

There will be several used outfit items, at no charge, available at the formal outfit fittings. Please determine if you are interested in a used item. Bring a check as if you are purchasing new items and if you find a used item that fits, you may take the item and your check home and a revised payment reminder will be sent with you. An email will be sent as a reminder to bring the revised check to the next rehearsal on October 6.

PLEASE NOTE: If you need to be fitted for a formal outfit but cannot be there this Sunday between 1:30 and 3:30 p.m., please contact Beth Inkrote at binkrote5ychc@hotmail.com

3. CONCORDE AUDITIONS THIS SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 29, AT 4 PM

Concorde auditions will be held this Sunday, September 29 from 4 to 5 p.m., following our first rehearsal. Auditions are optional and are open to all members of Senior Honors Choir. The size of the group is generally 25 to 30 singers, but could be smaller or larger depending on the number of people who audition for each part. It is important that all four parts are equally balanced (which does not necessarily mean that there will be an equal number of singers in each voice part.).

If you wish to audition on September 29, you should be prepared to stay as late as 5 p.m. You will sign up that day, and then sing measures 1 to 23 of "Psalm 96" for Randy and Michal (who will have their backs turned to you). You will sing individually with the audition track. It does not need to be memorized. All who are auditioning may listen to the auditions until it's your turn. When you have auditioned, you may stay and listen to others or leave to go home. We'll probably begin with sopranos, then altos, then tenors, and finally basses.

Concorde rehearsals will be held from 4 to 4:45 p.m. following each Sunday afternoon Honors Choir rehearsal. Concorde Vocal Ensemble will sing "Psalm 96" in the November 24 concert.

The results of the auditions will be included in the weekly message on Wednesday, October 2nd.

4. FREE SEAMSTRESS SERVICES ON OCTOBER 20!

The Honors Choir is offering free seamstress services to all students who need their dress or pants hemmed or lowered.

If you need an existing hem lowered or raised, you would bring your item and performance shoes to the October 20 rehearsal.

The seamstress services will be subsidized by York County Honors Choirs at no cost to you.

Please fill out this survey by October 7 so that we can get a count of who will need the seamstress services on October 20.

September 18, 2019
Hi Everybody!

We are definitely looking forward to hearing all your auditions this weekend. It was great to work with about half of you in the optional rehearsal on Sunday (....and you sounded excellent, by the way!).

This email contains important information you'll need to be ready for the audition process, so please read it carefully.

IN THIS EMAIL

1. Have you signed up for an audition time?
2. Preparing for your audition
3. Audition procedures
4. Concorde auditions
5. "West Side Story" at the Belmont Theater this weekend

1. DEADLINE FOR ONLINE SIGNUPS FOR AUDITIONS IS THIS THURSDAY, SEPT. 19

***If you have already signed-up, please be sure to check your audition time so that you'll be there at the right time!

Sign-ups will close at 9 AM this Thursday, September 19. To choose or confirm your audition time, visit the Student Center page of our website .....the link to sign up is in the Senior Honors Choir box.

Our records indicate that the following people have not yet signed up for auditions: Alli Reeser

2. PREPARING FOR YOUR AUDITION

Select your audition time - If you haven't already done so, be sure to sign up for your audition time on the Student Center page of our website by 9 a.m. this Thursday, September 19. After that time, you will still be able to access the list to confirm your time, but you will not be able to sign up.

Sing along with the rehearsal track, then practice singing with the "Audition" tracks. If you can sing your part successfully by yourself with the audition track, you should be in good shape for your audition. Rehearsal tracks are found on the Student Center page of our website.

Use pure vowels (Ooh, Oh, Ah, Eee [OoEeee] and Eh). Practice with your friends! Think about the text and try to sing with expression. Be sure your consonants can be heard. Stress the most important words in each phrase. Take deep low breaths when you sing...........

Check your posture - Are you standing tall with your head up? Practice in front of a mirror. Hold your music high enough that you do not have to look down to see it. Hold your music at chest/shoulder height (not at your waist). Be sure that you are singing out to us, not down to the floor.

Remember - The most important thing to know about your audition is that you need to be prepared. If you really know your music well, you'll do fine. If you make a mistake or two, don't worry about it...... nobody's perfect! But if it's obvious to us that you are often lost and if we can't hear you because you're singing softly and "hiding", then that's not good. Be ready and be confident!

Beware!!  Extra practice (for finding your starting pitches) is needed for "Requiem" (pages 11-12 and 19-20) and for "Sanctus" for difficult rhythms from beginning to end (especially on page 4 for sopranos and altos) . Those spots seemed to cause us the most difficulty as we practiced them on Sunday. Do the best you can with the Latin in a lot of the pieces and with the African Zulu language in "O Sifuni Mungu". We're not judging you on your pronunciation, but you can probably get a lot of practice just by listening to the rehearsal tracks.

3. EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT YOUR AUDITION

Where - Eastminster Presbyterian Church, 311 Haines Rd., York 17402
When - Saturday, September 21 or Sunday, September 22
Where to enter the church - Go down the steps at the right side of the church (do not enter the glass doors to the sanctuary). Then enter Fellowship Hall through the double doors to your left.
When to arrive - Plan to arrive at least 15 or 20 minutes before your scheduled audition time.
What to bring - Bring your music (of course), and be sure to bring your Medical Form (with copies of the front and back of your insurance card), your Honors Code of Conduct Forms and your Conflict Form.
Sign in - Register at the desk, hand in your forms, and get your name tag. Put your name tag up high near your shoulder so that it will be easy for us to see. Then you may all practice your part together with the CD player in Fellowship Hall.
Be sure your music is in order -The audition spots will be in this order: [1] With a Voice of Singing (entire piece from beginning to end); [2] Alleluia! Alleluia! (p. 10, meas. 55 to p. 13, meas. 70);  [3] This Little Light of Mine (p. 6, meas. 25 to end); [4] Requiem I -Introit and Kyrie (from p. 5, meas. 50 through p. 6, meas. 78); [5] Requiem II -Offertoire (from p. 11, meas. 77 to the end); [6] Requiem V -Agnus Dei (p. 19, meas. 44 to p. 20, meas. 67);  [7] O Sifuni Mungu (from p. 14, meas. 126 to end); [8] Sanctus (entire piece from beginning to end); [9] Across the Vast Eternal Sky (from p. 17, meas. 81 to end); [10] Gloria (entire piece from beginning to end).
While you do not need to memorize the music, you must know it extremely well and be able to sing your part confidently. Please mark the audition spots with paperclips so that you can find them quickly.
Your audition - When it is time for your group's audition, you will be directed to go upstairs to the sanctuary. Please wait in the back until you are called to the front. There will be music stands on which you can place the music you are not using, but you must hold your music as you're singing. Nothing needs to be memorized. As the entire group sings each audition spot along with the "AUDITION" tracks, we will walk back and forth in front of you so that we can hear each of you more clearly.
A cappella audition - After you have sung all ten audition spots, we will ask you all to sing your part together, a cappella (without accompaniment), on "Gloria" on pages 9 and 10 from measure 50 through measure 55. Then we will quickly go down the row and ask each of you to sing the same thing individually, a cappella.
After your audition - We will tell you if you have successfully passed your audition. If we have concerns about your knowledge of the music or if we have questions about your voice part, we'll ask you to stay for just a moment to discuss the issue. After your audition, you will go downstairs to have your picture taken. The pictures are just for our use so that we can get to know you better. They will not be used for publication. Please hold your name tag near your chin so that we can easily see it in the picture.
Before you leave - Be sure to put your name tag on the table and then exit by the side door.

4. CONCORDE AUDITIONS

Rehearsals will be held from 4 to 4:45 p.m. following each Sunday afternoon Honors Choir rehearsal. Concorde Vocal Ensemble will sing "Psalm 96" in the November 24 concert at St. Paul's Lutheran.

Concorde auditions will be held on Sunday, September 29 from 4 to 5 p.m., following our first rehearsal. Auditions are optional and are open to all members of Senior Honors Choir. The size of the group is generally 25 to 30 singers, but could be slightly smaller or larger depending on the number of people who audition for each part. It is important that all four parts are equally balanced (which does not necessarily mean that there will be an equal number of singers in each voice part.).

If you wish to audition on September 29, you should be prepared to stay as late as 5 p.m. You will sign up that day, and then sing measures 1 through 23 from "Psalm 96" for Randy and Michal (who will have their backs turned to you) in the choir room. You will sing on "Lah"..... no French! You will sing individually with the audition track. The track gives your pitch and a "click" track. Your parts are played for the first few measures and then they fade, so then you will sing with just the "click" track to the end. Your challenge is to count correctly and sing the correct pitches (on "Lah"). It does not need to be memorized. We will also be listening for pleasant tone quality and accurate intonation. All who are auditioning may sit in the choir room and listen to the auditions until it's your turn. When you have auditioned, you may stay and listen to others or leave to go home. We'll probably begin with sopranos, then altos, then tenors, and finally basses..... probably

The results of the auditions will be included in the weekly message on Wednesday, October 2nd.

5. "FROZEN" AT THE BELMONT THEATER

Six of our Honors Choir singers are on stage for the Belmont Theater's production of "Frozen".  Hi Everybody!

What a thrill it was to see and hear all of you on Sunday evening! Thank you, parents and singers, for making time in your busy schedules..... on a very busy day!..... to help us begin our 22nd year of the York County Senior Honors Choir. After hearing you sight-sing your audition spots, it certainly appears that we're headed for another wonderful season!

As we remember the 2,983 people who lost their lives in the attacks on September 11, 2001, 18 years ago, we give thanks for the emergency responders who rush into danger to help us and to the men and women who serve in our armed forces and put their lives on the line to protect us every day.

Before you continue to read the rest of this email, please take a moment to read this: If you have a successful audition and become a member of this year's choir, please remember that every Wednesday (except Christmas and New Year's), you will find our weekly message on our website.   In tonight's email:

  1. This Sunday's optional rehearsal for auditions
  2. Online sign-ups for auditions
  3. Rehearsal and Audition tracks online and on CD's/Audition hints
  4. We welcome our Logistics Coordinators
  5. Voice part changes

1. INFORMATION ABOUT THE OPTIONAL REHEARSAL THIS SUNDAY
This Sunday, September 15 - from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. in the sanctuary at Eastminster Presbyterian Church.  This is completely optional.....you're all welcome, but you are not required to attend. We won't take attendance.  We'll practice all of the music for your auditions, go over each individual voice part, give you hints about how you can be most successful, and hold "practice auditions" with anyone who wants to volunteer so that you'll know exactly how it will feel during your real audition. If you need to come late or leave early, that's fine too!
What to bring - Be sure to bring your music and a pencil, and you can also bring a bottle of water, if you wish. (No sodas, coffee, milk shakes or food, please) Parents are welcome to come and sit in the back of the sanctuary.

2. ONLINE SIGN-UPS FOR AUDITIONS
Online audition sign-ups will be available today, Wednesday, September 11 at 3:30 p.m.  It's a good idea to sign up right away so that you can reserve the time that works best for you. 30-minute auditions will be held in groups of ten singers (10 sopranos and altos or 10 tenors and basses) on Saturday, Sept. 21 (10-11:30 and 1:30 to 3:00) OR Sunday, Sept. 22 (1:30 to 4) at Eastminster Presbyterian Church. When you sign up, please ignore the numbers in parenthesis. The numbers are only there to count the number of people signed up for that time, and they do not indicate your voice part. For auditions, it does not matter whether you are a 1 or 2.  Sign-ups will close at 9 AM on Thursday, September 19. To choose your audition time, visit the Student Center page of our website and the link to sign up will be in the Senior Honors Choir box on Wednesday afternoon.

3. REHEARSAL AND AUDITION TRACKS and AUDITION HINTS
Rehearsal tracks on the website and CD's - You can find all rehearsal and audition tracks on our website (the audition track for "Across the Vast Eternal Skies" is there now.) by going to the Student Center page and clicking on "Rehearsal and Audition Tracks Fall 2019" in the Senior Honors Choir grey box. If you have problems accessing the tracks or using your CD, please contact Randy at rdy1949@gmail.com .

Audition spots - If you didn't mark your music on Sunday evening, the ten audition spots are listed in order on the "Welcome" page in your packet. For auditions, you need to work on "With a Voice of Singing", "Alleluia! Alleluia!", "This Little Light of Mine", "Requiem 1-Introit and Kyrie", "Requiem 2-Offertoire", "Requiem 5-Agnus Dei", "O Sifuni Mungu", "Sanctus" (Lucas), "Across the Vast Eternal Sky" and "Gloria". You do not need to learn the "Agnus Dei" chant until after you have had a successful audition. You do not need to memorize your music for auditions.

Concorde Auditions - Concorde auditions will be held on Sunday September 29 between 4 and 5 p.m. We will listen to candidates with our backs turned so that we cannot see who is singing. Singers will sing the first four pages on "LA" (no French......) of "Psalm 96" individually with the Audition track. We will practice the Concorde audition during the optional rehearsal this Sunday and also during the choir rehearsal on September 29. Concorde will sing "Psalm 96" during the concert on November 24.

Black 3-ring binder - You will need to provide a black 3-ring binder for the "Requiem" (and you can keep your other music in it too, if you wish). Please use it for auditions and rehearsals and the concert. Be sure to put your name somewhere on the inside of your folder as well as on each piece of music.

How to be really good for your audition! - Know the music really well! Be sure to have your music in the order listed on your "Welcome" sheet, and mark the beginning of each audition spot clearly. After you sing along with the "Rehearsal" track for your part, then practice singing with the "Audition" tracks. If you can sing your part successfully by yourself with the audition track, you should be in good shape for your audition. Be sure your voice is strong enough that we can hear you. It would be a great idea to get together to practice, and it's perfectly OK to take the hardest parts to your voice teacher if you study privately. Think about the text and try to sing with expression. Be sure your consonants (k, t, p, d, etc.) can be heard. Use pure vowels (Ah, Oh, Ooh, Eee [OoEeee] and Eh). Stress the most important words in each phrase. Take deep low breaths when you sing. Don't worry if you make a mistake..... Just keep calm and carry on!

5. WE WELCOME OUR LOGISTICS COORDINATORS

Mrs. Stephanie Stoolmaker, Mrs. Wendy Fraser and Mrs. Dana Gaetjen will be our Logistics Coordinators for Senior Honors Choir this year. We are grateful to them for assisting and supporting us during rehearsals and concerts.

6. VOICE PART CHANGES

The following people have indicated that they will change voice parts:

Soprano 1 to Soprano 2 - Elizabeth Arbogast
(We still need several more S1's to move to S2, please)
Alto 1 to Alto 2 - Rebekah Kelley, Allison Reeser, Emma Gaetjen
Tenor 1 to Bass 1 - Nate Spigelmyer
Tenor 2 to Bass 2 - Ronan Mailey
Bass 1 to Bass 2 - Galen Brubaker, Owen Davis

If you are still thinking about switching parts, it would probably be a good idea to do it before auditions so that you don't have to re-learn your part later. If you want to add your name to the "switch parts" list, please email Randy at rdy1949@gmail.com

Hi everybody!

Can't wait to see you on Sunday evening! We hope you'll be able to arrive a little early so that we can start promptly at 7 p.m. It will be pretty crowded in the Eastminster sanctuary, so you'll need to move toward the center of the rows to make more room....... and don't be afraid to sit in the front rows too!

***INFORMATION FOR OUR MEETING THIS SUNDAY EVENING

First meeting - Our first meeting will be this Sunday, September 8th from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Eastminster Presbyterian Church, 311 Haines Rd., York 17402. This meeting is "mandatory", meaning that each prospective singer must be present with a parent or guardian. (If necessary, a close relative or trusted family friend may accompany the student.)

Entering the church and parking - Please be careful on Haines Rd. as you enter and exit the parking lot (the road is sometimes very busy and many drivers tend to go faster than the speed limit). Please note that there are "Enter" and "Exit" signs at the two driveways....please do not enter at the "Exit". You can park anywhere in the parking lot....there's plenty of room for everybody.

When - Please plan to arrive at least 10 minutes early so that we can start promptly at 7:00 p.m.

Food and drink - Please do not bring food or drinks (other than bottled water) into the sanctuary.

Signing in - Enter the church sanctuary through the glass doors and proceed down the center aisle to the front of the church. Go to the table that corresponds alphabetically with your last name. Both parent/guardian and student will be asked to sign in, and you'll be given your packet of music, audition information and, if you requested it, a rehearsal CD. Student singers who are not accompanied by an adult will not be given their music, and your music can not be picked up for you if you do not attend the meeting. Then find a seat anywhere in the sanctuary. You'll probably have to move to the middle because there will be a LOT of you there.

The meeting - Between 7:00 and 7:45 p.m., we'll welcome you, talk about the Honors Choir Board of Directors and staff, and discuss the schedule for the 19-20 season, formal outfit fittings, attendance policies, communications and audition procedures for the Senior Honors Choir.

Rehearsal for auditions - At about 7:45 p.m., parents and guardians will be excused to go downstairs for a meeting with our Executive Director, Bill Lytle, in which he will offer more detailed information about concerts and special events that will take place during the season. All the singers will remain in the sanctuary so that we can rehearse the portions of the music that you'll sing for auditions. We'll practice for about an hour, and everyone will be on their way home no later than 9:00 p.m.

Optional rehearsal - On Sunday, September 15 from 2 to 4 p.m., there will be an optional rehearsal at Eastminster for those who want to get together to practice for the auditions scheduled the following week. Everyone's welcome, but we don't take attendance, and you don't have to tell us if you're not going to be there.

Auditions and Signups - 30 minute auditions will be held in groups of ten singers (10 sopranos and altos or 10 tenors and basses) on Saturday, Sept. 21 (10-11:30 and 1:30 to 3) OR Sunday, Sept. 22 (1:30 to 4) at Eastminster Presbyterian Church. Sign-ups for audition times will be held online beginning Wednesday, September 11.

We'll do our best to answer all your questions and help you to prepare for your auditions. We want you all to succeed and we expect to hear great things from you!

August 21, 2019
Hi everybody!

The 22nd season of the York County Senior Honors Choir is just about to begin! We're so happy that you have registered and are planning to audition.

Our first meeting will be held on Sunday, September 8th from 7 to 9 p.m. at Eastminster Presbyterian Church, 311 Haines Rd., York 17402. This meeting is "mandatory", meaning that each prospective singer must be present with a parent or guardian. (If necessary, a close relative or trusted family friend may accompany the student.) The meeting is particularly important because we'll distribute music and discuss our schedule, audition procedures and formal outfits.

Music will not be distributed to student singers who are not accompanied by an adult. During the meeting, we will rehearse the music that you will be asked to sing for your 20 minute audition on either September 21st OR 22nd. We want to be sure that everyone has an equal opportunity to have a successful audition.

Beginning today, if your audition is successful, we will contact you every week on Wednesdays throughout the season. For the next several weeks, we will send emails each Wednesday. Beginning September 11, we will no longer send emails, and weekly information will be posted on our website (www.theYCHC.org) on the Student Center page on Wednesday mornings. For students and parents who gave permission on the registration form, we will send text messages each Wednesday that include a link to the information on our website.

Next week's email will contain more specific information about the meeting, audition procedures and sign-ups for audition times. Emails will be sent from our Senior Honors Choir "official" address, yorkhonorschoir1@aol.com, which is Michal's Honors Choir address. Please be sure that this address is in your contact list so that her emails will not go to your junk mail.

For your information, an updated season's schedule is attached at the top of this page and also located on the Schedules page of this website. The schedule is still subject to change, and you will receive a final version at the meeting on September 8.

HELP! We're looking for a host for our concert on Sunday, March 29. If you would like to host the Senior Honors Choir at your church, please contact Randy at rdy1949@gmail.com.

We're excited to see you and hear you sing together for the first time on September 8! Look for another email next Wednesday...........
