Dear JHC Candidates and Parents,

Please share all details of this email with your child TODAY! 

NOVEMBER 6 / NOVEMBER 9 AUDITIONS 

Returning members: Wear your t-shirt!  

PARENTS: Please arrive with a completed 
Medical Form 
Conflict Form
Front AND back of Insurance card.  
Conflict Forms must be handed in even if you do NOT have conflicts. No forms, no copy of insurance card ~ no audition. Oh dear!

PARENTS: If possible, this is not the best day to bring young children. You will be seated quietly in the back of the audition room.

If you should wake up ill on Saturday, or have car trouble on your way to the audition, please text Mrs. Waltimyer immediately, 717-880-6555.

AUDITION SCHEDULE: See the schedule on the Student Center Tab and at the top of this page. Arrive 15 minutes before your audition time to warm up; verify the start of your audition time and the length of your stay - which includes audition/t-shirt fitting/photo/height time; verify the spelling of your name; verify that your voice part is correct.

AUDITION PROCESS:  
  • A parent must be present for the full 90 minutes, or your child may not audition.
  • Students evaluated on preparation: how well the student has prepared their music.
  • Evaluated on marking music: highlighting vocal part, correctly, completed required rhythms & Latin
  • Evaluated on preparation of scales & tonal patterns with correct hand signs, and solfege
  • Evaluated on clapping and counting out loud rhythm examples
  • Evaluated on vocal ability: intonation (singing in tune), tone quality (beauty of the sound), musicality (feeling phrasing, changing dynamics, etc.). The tie breaker will be stage presence.
  • NOTE: No one sings alone; you will sing with approximately 6-8 people on the same voice part, and 8 other people on another voice part.

PARENTS: If you know NOW that you have a conflict with the formal outfit fittings on Saturday, November 16, please attend the additional fitting this Wednesday, November 6, 6:30 - 7:30 PM at Zion UMC. If you have a conflict, returning members should wear your outfit to the November 6 fitting for size and wear check, and new members will be fitted for a complete outfit. Please bring your tuition and outfit order form that was included in your orientation packet or found on the FORMS page of the Honors Choirs website. Do not fill out check until after fitting.

Dear JHC Candidates and Parents,  

Our Music Marking Parties, as well as last night’s rehearsal proved to be just what our students needed. NOTE: parents, please share this information with your child TONIGHT. 
Last night we learned that: 

Returning Candidates are not spending enough time on:
  • Tonal syllables
  • Guys learning Why We Sing, Benedictus and The Star-Spangled Banner  
  • Sing counting AND Latin for Sicut Cervus
  • Pages 4-6 of Sicut Cervus this week and all of Alway Something Sings next week!!!
New Candidates need to spend focused rehearsal time on
  • Sicut Cervus sing counting AND Latin
  • Alway Something Sings solidly

AUDITION SCHEDULE (Attached at the top of this page and a link is located on the Student Center page): Arrive 15 minutes before your audition time to warm up, verify the start of your audition time and the length of your audition time, verify the spelling of your name, verify that your voice part is correct.

AUDITION PROCESS:  
Parent must be present for the full 90 minutes, or your child may not audition.

Your child may not audition without the following:

  • A copy (not your original card) of your insurance card (front and back) must accompany your medical form
  • Conflict Form (whether or not you have conflicts) 

90 minute audition includes:
  • 60 minute singing addition
  • 10 minutes photo taken & height measured
  • 20 minutes t-shirt fitting
                RETURNING MEMBERS: you MUST try on a new shirt.

Evaluated on preparation (marking music, origin in correct rhythm syllables, scales, tonal patterns, rhythm examples, vocal: intonation, tone quality, musicality. Tie breaker will be stage presence.

No one sings alone; you will sing with approximately 6-8 people on the same voice part, and 8 other people on another voice part.

MUSIC MARKING PARTY: Wednesday 10/23 or Thursday 10/24, 6:00 - 8:00 PM
JHC members wear your JHC t-shirt
Bring your music, pencil and a highlighter (one of the songs is on yellow paper so a yellow highlighter won’t be a good choice.)
Suggest erasable highlighter

AUDITION SCHEDULE:  DATE CHANGE - the audition schedule will be posted on the Honors Choir website Student Center page on Tuesday October 29.

NOVEMBER 9 AUDITION PROCESS:  
Parent must be present for the full 90 minutes, or your child may not audition.

SUNGLASSES/GLASSES FOUND:
• After Orientation a pair of each were found in the pews. They can be picked up at Zion, after calling the church office, 717-843-5261.

CONFLICTS WITH THE NOVEMBER 9 AUDITION:
• EMAIL Mrs. Knott ([email protected]) by Wednesday, October 16
• If your child has a conflict with the audition date, please send me the times that they are available.
• Be as generous as possible with their available time.
• I will do my best to schedule them accordingly.

Orientation:

Students may not bring phones
Students will receive their November 9 audition music, instructions and voice part

If you submitted a registration form and fee, Mrs. Knott, Mrs. Feldmann, and the JHC staff are looking forward to seeing student and parent(s)/guardian(s) at Orientation on Sunday, October 13. Please, carefully review the schedule for the day. While our focus is teaching and preparing each candidate for your November audition, we work diligently on scheduling so as not to waste precious parent(s)/guardian(s) time.

August 27, 2019 - FOR MAY/JUNE SPRING REGISTRANTS
​Greetings from York County Junior Honors Choir (JHC). Our new season is upon us so it is time to finalize your registration.

If you have already submitted your Junior Honors Choir registration form last May/June, a non-refundable registration fee of $40 is required to audition for the choir, due by October 1. A payment link is located on the Student Center page of the York County Honors Choirs website, www.theYCHC.org. If you do not submit the registration fee by October 1, we will remove your singer's name. 
For scholarship forms, please visit the Forms Page of our website. www.theYCHC.org

The JHC schedule can always be found on the Student Center page of our website. Please pencil the dates into your calendar.

Weekly information from the director will be posted on Tuesdays or Wednesdays on the Student Center page of the York County Honors Choirs website, www.theYCHC.org starting September 3. Please remember that it is your responsibility to stay informed.

A mandatory parent/guardian and student orientation meeting will be held on Sunday October 13, 1:00 – 4:00 p.m. at Zion United Methodist Church, 1030 Carlisle Road, York, PA 17404. Audition materials will be handed out.
