Hi Everybody!

Thanks to all of you for another excellent rehearsal on Sunday. Your outstanding attendance has helped to make our time together so productive (82 of you have attended all three rehearsals in January!) Of course, we still have plenty of work ahead of us this Sunday.........we need to memorize "Alway Something Sings" and "Common Threads", plus we need to finish the choreography for "Gershwin". The weather looks rainy for Saturday, but it should be good for Sunday, so we hope to see all of you there again this week.

PLEASE NOTE: This Sunday, Senior solo auditions will be held from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. and the choir's rehearsal will begin at 2:00 p.m. Concorde will rehearse from 4:00 to 4:45 p.m.

Congratulations again to all of you who sang in District 7 Chorus last weekend! It was a wonderful concert even though it was all put together in just one day. We'd love to offer congratulations to those who were chosen for Regional Chorus, but the paper you signed on Sunday seems to be lost, so we'll have to ask you to sign it again this Sunday......😬

PLEASE REMEMBER: If you must be absent from a rehearsal or concert due to a conflict or illness, you are asked to send an email to Michal at [email protected], even if you have already listed it on the conflict form. Please remember that we need to know the reason for your absence.

1. THIS WEEK - SUNDAY, JANUARY 26

  •   SENIOR SOLO AUDITIONS - ........Starting at 1:00 p.m. in the sanctuary and the choir room. Please enter downstairs, sign-in, get your name tag, and go upstairs. •   REHEARSAL - 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. for the full choir.
  •   CONCORDE REHEARSAL - 4:00 to 4:45 p.m. Please practice with the rehearsal tracks for "Ubi Caritas" on the website.

2. SOLO AUDITION RESULTS - Probably nobody will read this paragraph because you'll all skip down to the results....... but if you actually are reading it, you'll know how much we appreciate your talent and courage as you audition for solos. Our choices are not easy because you're all so good! We have "double cast" some of the solos, so the numbers behind the names indicate the dates when the solo will be sung :

1. Feb. 16       2. March 29        3. April 19         4. May 10
Final decisions for May 31 and June 26/27 will be made later.

4. NEW YORK MUSICALS- This Sunday, you will again have an opportunity to choose (or change) your 1st, 2nd and 3rd choices of musical or play when we travel to New York in June. In order to keep the price of the trip as low as possible, we choose performances that offer the most reasonable prices for group tickets, and our seats will be in the balcony or mezzanine.   1. Ain't Too Proud -The Temptations Story (minimum of 10 tickets)
  2. Come From Away (minimum of 10 tickets)

Applications are due no later than March 1.

From Honors Choirs Office:
Emails have been sent with information about NYC/Carnegie trip discount for families with multiple children going on the trip. If you did not receive this email, please check your junk email, or contact Bill Lytle, [email protected].

See you Sunday!

Hello Honors Choir!

Wow! Two amazing rehearsals in a row..... let's go for three! Huge thanks to Emma for teaching the choreography for "Freedom Train" and to all of you for learning it so quickly. Big thanks also to Mr. Casilla for being with us again to lead a third sectional..... we got so much done! This week, we'll add some simple movements to "Tuba" and "Swingin' with the Gershwins" and attempt to sing both of them from memory. We'll also work on "Alway Something Sings" (especially the "ahs" at the end), "Common Threads" (memorize?), NYC (especially page 5 to the end), and "I Love You/What a Wonderful World" (to try to put it all together again)

PLEASE NOTE: This Sunday, solo auditions will be held from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. and the choir's rehearsal will begin at 2:00 p.m.  Concorde will rehearse from 4:00 to 5:00 p.m.

Congratulations to all of you who will sing in District 7 Chorus this weekend! The concert is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. this Saturday, January 18 at Central Dauphin High School, 437 Piketown Rd., Harrisburg, PA 17112. Best wishes as you audition for Regional Chorus on Thursday.

PLEASE REMEMBER: If you must be absent from a rehearsal or concert due to a conflict or illness, you are asked to send an email to Michal at [email protected], even if you have already listed it on the conflict form. Please remember that we need to know the reason for your absence.

1. THIS WEEK - SUNDAY, JANUARY 19

SOLO AUDITIONS - ........Starting at 1:00 p.m. in the sanctuary. Please enter downstairs, sign-in, get your name tag, and go upstairs. We'll use the sign-up sheets that you signed on Sunday. If you change your mind and don't want to audition,, you do not have to come to the audition.........OR if you have decided that you DO want to audition, just show up and add your name to the list. We'll plan to use the following schedule....... please warm-up your voice before you arrive:

4. NEW YORK MUSICALS- During rehearsal this Sunday and again on January 26, we'll ask those of you who will be singing in New York in June to choose your 1st, 2nd and 3rd choices of musical or play. There might be some snow on Saturday, so we should be in good shape on Sunday........ see you then!

January 8, 2020
Hi Everybody!

What an amazing rehearsal we had on Sunday! It's hard to believe we sang through ALL of the music at the very first rehearsal! Of course, we have a lot to do to fine tune and memorize each piece, and there's also going to be some movement/simple choreography for some of the pieces, so we have to continue to work quickly and hope it doesn't snow on Sundays. The "round robin" sectionals seemed to work well, so we're planning to do that again this week.

Most of you were very well prepared for your auditions, and that's why we were able to get so much done so quickly. If you know that you weren't as well prepared as you could have/should have been, please be sure to practice with the rehearsal tracks before Sunday. Everybody in Honors Choir needs to be a leader, and that means you've got to study your music before you get to rehearsal.

PLEASE REMEMBER: If you must be absent from a rehearsal or concert due to a conflict or illness, you are asked to send an email to Michal at [email protected], even if you have already listed it on the conflict form.

1. THIS WEEK - SUNDAY, JANUARY 12

  •   AUDITIONS - Auditions at 1:00 p.m. for Elizabeth Arbogast, Holly Hinchcliff, Kylie Smith and Aaron Stetter
  •   REHEARSAL - 1:30 to 4:00 p.m. for the full choir.
  •   CONCORDE REHEARSAL - 4:00 to 4:45 p.m.
  •   SIGN-UPS FOR SOLO AUDITIONS - This Sunday, you will be able to sign-up for solo auditions for "Tuba", "Alway Something Sings", "Common Threads", "Swingin' With the Gershwins", and "I Love You/What a Wonderful World". Auditions will be held on January 19 and/or January 26 (it sort of depends on the weather.....)
  •   SIGN-UPS FOR SENIOR SOLO AUDITIONS - This Sunday, Seniors will be able to sign up for senior solo auditions. Seniors will have the opportunity to sing or play solos in our concerts in February, March and April. It is entirely optional...... not required. Since the "theme" of our spring concerts will be "love", it would be great if you would consider choosing a solo which somehow matches or enhances that theme. If you are interested, your solo must not be longer than 2 1/2 minutes, and it must be memorized for your audition.

Hello Honors Choir!

We are really looking forward to seeing (and hearing) you this weekend! Following auditions on Saturday and Sunday, we will rehearse from 1:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Concorde will rehearse from 4:00 to 4:45 p.m.

1. AUDITIONS - Auditions will be held this Saturday, January 4 at Eastminster between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. and this Sunday, January 5 at 1 p.m. As of today (Monday), it appears that 20 of you have not yet signed up for an audition time. All of the time slots for Sunday have been taken (except for three spaces for tenors), so you'll need to sign up for one of the Saturday times. You can sign up for your audition time online now! Just go to the Student Center page on our website, scroll down to the SENIOR HONORS CHOIR gray box and click on January Audition Time Sign-Up . The signup list will remain online until Sunday so that you can double-check your time if you need to do so.

Please arrive at least 15 minutes before your audition time, and sign-in downstairs. There will be a rehearsal CD there for you to practice together before you go upstairs. Please be sure to have your music in order with paper clips to mark the starting spots for each song. Please practice your music before you arrive. If you appear to be unfamiliar with the music, we will need to ask you to return for another audition.

AUDITIONS SPOTS (in this order)
1.Star-Spangled Banner - the entire piece
2.Tuba - P. 4, meas. 14 to the end
3.Total Praise - beginning to P. 6, meas. 22
4.Freedom Train - P. 5, meas. 17 to P. 7, meas. 26

8.Swingin’ with the Gershwin’s - the entire piece (with performance track)
9.I Love You/What a Wonderful World - P. 4, mea. 29 to P. 11, mea. 59

If you must be absent or have questions about auditions, please email Michal at [email protected] ........ no texts please, unless it's a last minute emergency.

2. IMPORTANT STUFF TO KNOW

  •   NOT INCLUDED IN AUDITIONS - You may have noticed that you have music and rehearsal tracks for "God Moves in a Mysterious Way", but this song is not included in auditions. Also, the rehearsal track for "Tuba" continues on to another song which you do not need to know........You can stop listening at the 2:00 minute mark on the rehearsal track. Finally, "Why We Sing" is not included in auditions even though there is a rehearsal track for it.
  •   SOLO AUDITIONS for "Tuba", "Alway Something Sings", "Common Threads", "Swingin' With the Gershwins", and "I Love You/What a Wonderful World" will be held on January 19 and/or January 26 (it sort of depends on the weather.....)
  •   SENIOR SOLOS - Seniors will have the opportunity to sing or play solos in our concerts in February, March and April. It is entirely optional...... not required. Since the "theme" of our spring concerts will be "love", it would be great if you would consider choosing a solo which somehow matches or enhances that theme. Senior Solo auditions will be held on January 26 and/or February 2 (again, depending on the weather....) If you are interested, your solo must not be longer than 2 1/2 minutes, and it must be memorized for your audition.
  •   CONCORDE - Please take some time to learn your part for "Light in the Hallway" and "Happy Together". If you're prepared, we can move much more quickly in our short rehearsals.

3. REHEARSAL and AUDITION TRACKS - All rehearsal and audition tracks are on our website. Just go to the Student Center page, scroll down to the SENIOR HONORS CHOIR gray box and click on Rehearsal and Audition Tracks Spring 2020 - Senior Honors Choir . Underneath your rehearsal tracks, you will find "Performance tracks"......... these are there just so that you can hear the music without your highlighted part. Below that are the nine "Audition Tracks" that you will sing along with during your audition. At the very bottom, there are two "Performance Tracks" for Concorde.

4. AUDITION HINTS AND HELPFUL INFORMATION

  •   All the audition spots are listed above or in the blue box at the top of this page: "Spring 2020 Audition Information"
  •   Please note that six of the rehearsal tracks were prepared for both Junior and Senior Honors Choir (since we'll be doing them together in the May 31 concert at the Strand and the June 27 concert in Carnegie Hall.) As a result, Altos may find that some of the tracks are also listed as "MA" (Male Alto). some Tenor parts may also be listed as "MA" or as Tenor/Bari., and some of the Bass parts may be listed as Bari. Please just use your best judgement and choose the rehearsal tracks that seem to be the best for you. We'll probably need to make some adjustments when we begin rehearsals in January.
  •   You will notice that the audition tracks for "NYC" and "Swingin' with the Gershwins" are "performance tracks" (that is, the singers are on the track). This is not a mistake! During your group audition, you will sing along with the performance track. This is because "NYC" is rhythmically difficult and "Swingin' with the Gershwins" is pretty long and pretty fast....... and we need you to know them so well that we can sing them all the way through during the first rehearsal. We don't have a lot of rehearsal time for all this music....... and who knows how much it's going to snow on Sundays in January and February?
  •   It's very important that you know your music well when you come to audition. Each one of you needs to be a leader so that we can get a lot done in a hurry during rehearsals. Please do not wait until the last moment to learn your music.

Happy New Year.........See you soon!

We miss you, and we're looking forward to seeing you again!
