Hello Students and Families,

I am looking forward to beginning this season with you all! But first, we need to go through the audition process. As I mentioned in my previous newsletter, this year’s auditions will happen virtually. You will receive the audition music during the week of our August 30th meeting. After that, you will have two full weeks to submit your successful audition!

One of the pieces that we will prepare this semester will be Alway Something Sings by Dan Forrest. Many of you are familiar with this piece, as both the Senior and the Junior Honors Choir programmed it in last year’s repertoire. If you are a returning Senior Choir member, or if you are coming from the Junior Choir, please take 30 seconds to fill out this survey regarding whether or not you still own a copy of Alway Something Sings.

As always, we want to take the time to celebrate our members who have been awarded special recognitions. Four of our members were awarded scholarships in the 2020 York County Distinguished Young Women’s Program in July, and three of our members have been selected by audition to sing in the National Association for Music Education (NAfME) All-National Honors Ensemble Mixed Choir. Congratulations on your achievements!!

2020 York County Distinguished Young Women’s Program

Hello Students and Families,

I am thrilled to share my first newsletter with you as the new conductor for the Senior Honors Choir (SHC). As I type this letter, I am amazed by the number of students and families who are interested in being a part of this wonderful organization, regardless of our current circumstances. That being said, I want to start my time with you by building our relationship with transparency in regards to each step that we take as an organization, in light of these extraordinary times.

Before I continue, I would like to remind us all of our mission as an organization:

“The mission of the York County Honors Choirs is to engage the hearts and minds of its singers by providing choral education and performance opportunities to diverse young people, from throughout York County. As a result of our efforts and activities, we enhance the quality and culture of our community.”

This year has brought many challenges to all of us. Nevertheless, it is also important to emphasize that we are an organization that is more than just singing. We build a loving community through the relationships that we create during our rehearsals; a community that values each member for who they are, and provides them with a place to be with people who share similar interests. That community-building aspect of our organization will be the foundation of our Fall season. We will focus on “providing choral education” and we will work to “enhance the quality and culture of our community.”

Please take a look at the updated Senior Honors Choir 2020-2021 Calendar. In order to follow the current CDC guidelines, we have made the following changes:

Our August 30th opening meeting for students and families will be via Zoom.
Auditions for the Fall season will be virtual (a pre-recorded video).
Our November concert is cancelled.

Please, do not hesitate to reach out if you have any questions and/or concerns.
